What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process that offers space to explore thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and life experiences with a qualified mental health professional. It supports greater self-understanding, healthier relationships, improved communication, and meaningful change in daily life.
A psychotherapist works with the whole person—mind, body, emotions, and lived experience. While approaches and techniques may vary, therapy is always grounded in a safe, respectful relationship that allows patterns to be explored, challenges to be understood, and new ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to emerge over time.
Why Choose Therapy?
Therapy provides a supportive space to pause, reflect and understand what's shaping your thoughts, emotions, and life experiences, with a qualified mental health professional.
Many people seek psychotherapy during times of change, uncertainty or emotional strain, while others come to gain clarity, strengthen coping skills or deepen self-awareness. Psychotherapy may help you understand your own needs, focus on self-care and live more fully.
Safe Place For Self Expression
Psychotherapy offers a safe space where you can step outside of family/work/life dynamics and get understanding from an impartial 3rd party. Be seen and heard. Part of healing is to be able to say what’s happening in your life without feeling judged, intimidated or defensive. It’s an opportunity to explore feelings, words and actions when working through difficult life situations.
Improve Sense Of Self & Emotional Well Being
A psychotherapist will help you feel seen, heard and rediscover your inner light and spark. We all need to feel whole and complete. Doubt, insecurities, fear, internal/external pressure or pain often cloud the way we see ourselves.
Develop Coping & Resiliency Skills
Sudden life challenges such as loss or illness force us to re-evaluate our life. When we are facing many challenges or our emotions are too much to handle or when life has become difficult and seems unmanageable, reaching out to a professional can help by providing you skills, strategies and tools to help you cope.
Promote Positive Mental Health ~ Keep you on track
People often think that you have to have a crisis or be in crisis to receive counselling or psychotherapy. Receiving support when life is going well is often as important as receiving it when things aren’t going well. Everyone needs a support network, cheering section, someone to listen and a place for safe expression of thoughts, feelings and behavior.
Lessen Anxiety And Depression
For some people, Anxiety and Depression are constant. Sharing your thoughts, feelings, fears, concerns with a qualified mental health professional can help alleviate stress, help you to set goals and put a realistic, personal wellness plan into place.
Improve Mood & Mindset
Exploring issues, recognizing your strengths, putting together an individualized plan with goals, helps to boost your mood and mindset. A psychotherapist/counsellor holds you accountable while providing a neutral, non judgemental setting. Using a variety of tools such as guided meditation and challenging old mindsets will empower you to become the best version of yourself.
Build Relationships And Perspective
A psychotherapist can help to assess difficulties and provide opportunities to change the way we think, feel, behave, perceive the world and relate to those around us, therefore, improving communications skills, empathy and relationships.
Grief And Bereavement
Life challenges and losses can be overwhelming. Loss of employment, moving, a diagnosis of a life limiting illness or chronic condition, divorce, separation, death of a pet or death of a loved one, life's transitions – all take their toll on you. Everyone grieves differently and in their own time. Talking to a psychotherapist can help us process what we are feeling.
How Does it Work?
Psychotherapy sessions are client-centred and offer a safe, supportive space for open expression. A complimentary 15-minute phone conversation is available to ask questions and explore whether working together feels like a good fit.
Therapy typically begins with one or two intake sessions to understand your story, strengths, concerns, and goals. From there, sessions unfold collaboratively and at a pace that feels respectful and supportive.
Psychotherapy may consist of a range of approaches depending on your needs and preferences. This can include talk therapy, somatic body-based work, emotionally focused exploration, and spiritually oriented psychotherapy for those exploring questions of meaning, purpose, or inner life. These approaches are integrated thoughtfully within a clinical psychotherapy framework.
An Integrative Approach
An integrative approach recognizes that no single method fits everyone. Psychotherapy is shaped around your unique needs, experiences, and goals, with the therapeutic relationship at the centre of the work.
Therapy is most effective when we consider the whole person—physical, emotional, mental, relational, and spiritual aspects of well-being. This mind–body–spirit approach allows space for deeper understanding, healing, and meaningful change.
If you’ve felt that therapy in the past was missing something, an integrative approach may offer a more complete and supportive experience.
It's time to make your health a priority and put your needs first. Call for an appointment today.
Update June 2024, Psychotherapy is now GST/HST exempt, making it more affordable.
When Life Feels Overwhelming
Life transitions and challenges can take many forms—changes in roles, caregiving responsibilities, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, separation or divorce, trauma, anxiety, or low mood. These experiences can leave you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, depleted, or unsure of how to move forward.
Reaching out for support takes courage. Therapy offers a space where you can feel heard, supported, and understood. I work with care and respect to help you feel comfortable and grounded as we explore what you’re facing and what may help you move forward.
